Valorisation dâun fonds photographique technique : lectures Ă travers les archives numĂ©risĂ©es de lâIGN

RĂ©sumĂ© : Au sein de nombreuses institutions et administrations publiques, lâadoption de lâoutil photographique comme instrument de travail courant a permis de constituer de grands ensembles photographiques utilitaires selon leur usage premier. Nous nous intĂ©ressons en particulier au fonds de photographies aĂ©riennes argentiques de lâInstitut gĂ©ographique national (IGN), constituĂ© entre 1920 et 2000, pour Ă©tudier les enjeux de la valorisation de telles archives techniques aujourdâhui : les circonstances de lâinitiative de valorisation, la nĂ©cessitĂ© dâune numĂ©risation et dâune mise en base de donnĂ©es patrimoniale, les dĂ©bouchĂ©s envisagĂ©s, et, en filigrane, les dĂ©fis que suppose lâadoption dâun « autre » prisme de lecture pour pleinement apprĂ©cier la richesse des photographies-documents. A la lumiĂšre de ces rĂ©flexions, et en nous appuyant sur un traitement informatique dâensemble, nous proposons une monstration de photographies aĂ©riennes extraites du fonds pour Ă©voquer les diffĂ©rentes thĂ©matiques qui irriguent le corpus.

Abstract: In many public institutions and administrations, the adoption of photography as an everyday working tool has led to the creation of large collections of utilitarian photographs, tailored to their primary use. We take a particular look at the aerial photography records of the French National Geographical Institute (IGN), built up between 1920 and 2000, to examine the implications of promoting such archives today: the circumstances of these initiatives, the mandatory digitization and creation of a heritage database, the potential opportunities, and, finally, the challenges of adopting a « different » perspective to give full consideration to the photo-documents. In view of these considerations, and with the help of computer processing, we propose a display of aerial photographs from the collection to highlight the various themes that run through the corpus.
